procrastination

i don't feel like reading so much each week. the work for my french history honors course is very tedious. the reading takes hours for me to get through...i am a rather slow reader.

it has been interesting to see the connections between all of my courses and how the knowledge i gain from each individual one can play into the other. i am starting to feel a little more well rounded.

tonight was small group, and it was wonderful. i love having girl nights and being in community with women who are there to encourage and pray for you. i've started attending missiodei regularly in wicker park. my roommate ariel heard about it from a friend at springhill. we love it, i love it...it's a perfect fit, a wonderful community of believers. i'm excited to meet more people and eventually live around there, and out of the commotion of the loop...although tonight it is rather quiet out.

in (the past, history what have you), the first born seems to be referred to as the eldest son, and i myself (a lady) feel, as the first born still an entitlement to the role that a son would play. the automatic sense of leadership is something i have not always accepted. but now, i am at a point where i feel comfortable and energized (but not in the way of a power trip) by the thought of leading. my leadership is quiet and it will be fun to see how God will use it.

i miss the beach box...and the chilly water

fall berries at the cottage, not to be eaten.

wedding shower

Rachel's getting Married!...(i think that's a movie)

i feel like there are many "first things" i post on this blog, last weekend i attended my first wedding shower for my cousin Rachel. It was at our beach box in West Olive.

a lonely day at the cottage

it was a nice get away weekend, with a wedding shower celebration (photos soon to come).
this is a silly little cup bug

i was alone at the cottage monday trying to finish my reading about taste & french history, which was monotonous & tiring. i realized that i do not like being alone in large living spaces. the night my family went back to GR i settled myself on the couch & read... then fell asleep.

when i awoke; still on the couch, i read... procrastinated & tried to read some more. the cottage was too much space for me to feel comfortable in all by myself. which got me to thinking if i will ever live without a roommate, & if i were to live alone would a studio space be the only thing i could emotionally handle?

while i was thinking about these things i heard a very loud thud. it sounded like a cat had hit the window. as i walked outside, rather cautiously i looked around expecting to find a large object. finally i realized that there was a small sparrow like bird lying on the deck. his little dark eye was looking straight at me. but there was no flutter. this dainty bird was gone. i'm not sure why but i've been happening across dead birds a lot these past six months. i don't like it, & i don't know how to interpret it.

i gently placed him in the forest to rest. i don't really have any closing things to say about it...

my first Kombucha brew

Thanks to KombuChick on Etsy my first 3-day Kombucha brew was rather successful. And it was a lovely sip-able  companion during my morning class.

Since Kombucha is still off the shelves i decided to try brewing it myself. KombuChick's kit is great for small batches, and is perfect for little spaces, i.e., shared apartment living...at least the scoby scares the girls enough to keep them out of my cupboards!

there may even be an new scoby forming! see the white cloud on top

this hummus is amazing...

and here is the new jar brewing in it's cupboard

only a couple days and it will be ready to drink!

wedding brooke & christian

Brooke & Christian
A couple weeks ago i was asked to shoot an old friends wedding, Classic with a barn twist. I thoroughly enjoyed documenting their day...never thought i would say it but i enjoy wedding photography. Because documentary photography is what i enjoy the most, i looked at the day focusing on capturing every moment for this couple that i myself would want captured.

It was fun successful day, and i got to try out a great little tilt-shift lens.

My friend Ariel assisted me, and she was a great help. I was so thankful she was there.
